Back–Up Power, City or Country

Emergency backup power is also a key market segment. If you experience extended electrical brown–outs, blackouts, an earthquake, tsunami, or other natural disaster, with your automobile, an inverter, and an electrical extension cord, you can power critical devices

in your home or business. For example, most home computers require no more than a few hundred watts.

Entry–level model MMS912E (MMS912E picture, web page) can supply 900 Watts continuous true sinewave power. Model MM1012E (MM1012E picture, web page) can supply 1 kW (1 kVA) continuous modified sinewave power.1  As long as your car has fuel, and its alternator can replace power drawn from the battery, you would have an independent off–grid source of AC power.2  To provide continuous power for extended periods, a larger storage battery bank and means to charge it are required. This YouTube video suggests the minimum battery bank storage capacity required is 20% of the inverter–charger's rated output.
